Things to Do This May – Austin Style

Giddy up as the heat starts hitting into the high 90s. Get out of the heat and into our AC buses and vans, while still exploring Austin. Or just go to your favorite spots without pit stains–we promise not to judge 🙂

Here’s but a mere sampling of the mind-blowing wonders one can enjoy in Austin!

Arts and Crafts!

While the festival itself has moved, nearly everybody knows about Austin’s eclectic Pecan Street Festival. The festival is completely free, family-friendly and a get-together known event. It’s called…the Pecan Street Spring Arts Festival. While the location has outgrown its original location, Pecan Street is the original art festival in Central Texas. So get out there and support Austin local businesses!

These Ain’t Your Dad’s Dad Jokes

Austin claims the non-native mid-nineteenth century short story writer O. Henry as their own. Famous for the classic tale, “Gift of the Magi”, and 300 some-odd other works, O. Henry (the nom de plume of William Sydney Porter) brightened every reader’s mood with his sweet and witty style. Sketch-y Comedy!

If puns aren’t your cup of tea, the Austin Sketch Fest has you covered! Hosted by ColdTowne Theater, Austin’s main stage for alternative comedy since 2006, the Sketch Fest brings over 20 headliners from across the country for some scripted comedy fun. Past participants have included such names as Paul F. Tompkins and Tim Robinson! This year, you can enjoy the yucks and chuckles from May 22nd to the 25th

Eat Up All Over Austin!

You might want to bring your wet naps for this one. Peppered across several locations around Austin, the Hot Luck Festival spans four days (5/22-5/25) of finger-lickin’ food offerings. Each day brings something new: from Franklin Barbecue to Jester King Brewery. As the event site itself says, “Hot Luck is a DIY casserole of the culinary and music world.”
