Spooky Season is Upon Us!

Five Things Austinites Do to (Pumpkin) Spice Up Their October!

Autumn scene with hay bales, pumpkins, scarecrow, and barrels on a hillside with 'Thankful' sign.

Fall ain’t exactly freezing in ATX much, but we still brave our semi-reliably slightly cooler than 100 degree weather with very cool events! Here are five things we like to do around here while we wait for our version of jacket weather:

1. Not one, but TWO Oktoberfests! Oct. 11 and Oct. 25

You may not know this about Central Texas, but we are wall-to-wall with descendants of German immigrants who helped makeTexas the beer swillin’, brat-fryin’ berg we are. The German Texas Heritage Society and German Free School kicks things off Oct. 11th with all the oompah-ing, kraut and wurst munching, and pumpkin painting you could wanna do!

Later in the month on Oct 25th, Austin Saengerrunde will bring Austoberfest to Scholz Garten, the oldest continuously operating tavern in the state. Don your lederhosen – or your favorite band t-shirt –  and gorge yourself with traditional German food while drinking from a beer selection to swoon over. They even have bowling!

2. Vroom-Vroom and Tunes! Oct. 17 to Oct. 19

Austin raced its way into the international sporting community by bringing Formula 1 to our fair city. You can rub elbows at the Circuit of The Americas with all the rich and famous people flying in via helicopter while experiencing the ultimate celebration of speed: The United States Grand Prix. The world’s top motorsport returns to Texas for this unforgettable three-day event . Off the track and on the appropriately dubbed “Super Stage”, the excitement continues with headliners such as Garth Brooks and Kygo performing each night after the races.

3. Movies Make You Feel Alright, Alright, Alright! Oct. 23 to Oct. 30

We Austinites are an artsy bunch, and do enjoy some good, meaningful cinema in between our dog walks, band practices and making fun of Elon Musk. We’re so keen on supporting the medium of film and its creators that the  Austin Film Festival has been going strong for 32 years now! Taking place all over downtown Austin, this festival “furthers the art and craft of storytelling by inspiring and championing the work of writers, filmmakers, and all artists who use written and visual language to tell a story.”  Look, they said it best! Because of course they did!

4. Night of the Drinking Dead! Oct. 31 to Nov. 1

Get ready for Austin’s biggest Halloween Bar Crawl, digging itself out of its own grave for another round of tipple-sippin’ fun! Join the spooky festivities for two nights of haunted drinks, outrageous costumes, and a night of bar-hopping you won’t forget. Get your body to the Parlor and Yard on Dirty Sixth to enjoy this 21+ only event.

5. Twisted Texas Tour: The Best Seat in Town! Anytime the website’s calendar says!

What better way to bring in cooler temperatures than with some BBQ and a cold beer? We recommend our BBQ and Brewery Adventure to celebrate the no-longer-triple-digit-days in central Texas. Really make it something special and have a solo musician on board to sing all your favorite tunes between stops!
