April’s Arrived!
Like our little armadillo friends crawling out of their winter burrows, eyes squinting at the bright springtime sun, Austinites are desperate to shake off our cabin fever. Here are five ways we like to leave the stale air of our homes in April, and find new adventures in Austin:
- Sometimes You Just Need a Good Laugh
Hosted by Austin’s crown jewel of performance venues, the Paramount Theatre, Moontower Comedy Fest (4/9/25 – 4/19/25) brings ten full days of gut-busting laughs from well-seasoned, nationally known comics as well as stars on the rise. You’ll even see the best local comics that Austin has to offer. But the fun isn’t limited to the Paramount itself. Comics will be slinging their jokes at venues both large and small all around Austin, with 20+ headliners alone!
- Take a Walk on the Weird Side
A couple of ways we Austinites like to keep our town weird is to fly our freak flags at Eeyore’s Birthday Party (which lands on 4/26/25) and the Austin Psych Fest (held 4/25/25 thru 4/27/25). Rub elbows and fairy wings with some of Austin’s weirdest while raising money for good causes at Pease Park, one of the city’s oldest and most beloved green spaces! It’s a day filled with locally brewed beer, bright colors, fun music, food, and general cartoonish weirdness! Proceeds benefit Central Texas non-profits, so you can feel good about feelin’ fine!
Then in the evening, enjoy a lineup of psych rock, dream pop and indie rock bands while contemplating what local visual artists have to offer at Austin’s own Far Out Lounge. Groovy!
- Jams, Riffs, Bars and Beats
If you’re into slightly more traditional kinds of tunes, two other musical offerings may be right up your alley. Begin your smooth musical odyssey with the Austin Reggae Fest (4/19/25 – 4/20/25), which is celebrating its 30th year of syncopated audio love at beautiful outdoor Auditorium Shores. Local chefs are on hand to cover your need to munch by selling vegan, vegetarian, and carnivorous fare. Plus, you’ll be jammin’ while also raising money for the Central Texas Food Bank!
Later in April, the Austin Blues Festival (4/26/25 – 4/27/25) kicks off at the stunning Moody Amphitheater. Started by Austin’s legendary blues club maven, Clifford Antone, in 1999, the Austin Blues Festival features a weekend jam packed with contemporary blues legends. Good eats are available during the festival, and there’s even a vinyl collection on display for those who dive deep into the blues catalog.
- Keeping it Green and Serene
The Field Guide Festival (4/25/25 – 4/27/25) held at verdant Fiesta Gardens plugs participants right into the local food system, as you meet local farmers and the Austin chefs they supply. Delicious seasonal food is served up while you learn about current trends in food growing and preparation, and learn which brands are most mindful of our beautiful planet, all while supporting the Central Texas Food Bank.
- Tuesday Twilights
If you’re feeling the call of the wild and absolutely need to get back to nature, Austin has you covered! The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is staying open late every Tuesday this Spring to make more hours for wildflowers! Make it a date night, a picnic with friends, or come for some solo solace as spring does its thing. Each evening will feature live music from local musicians, featured visual artists, a rolling lineup of Austin’s favorite food trucks, and take-and-walk adult beverages will be available for purchase too.
